Ingredients
For the dough:
- 1 cup All-purpose flour plus more for rolling
- 1.5 tsp Granulated sugar
- 1.5 tsp Baking powder
- 1/3 cup Whole milk
- 1/4 tsp Salt
- 2 TBSP Butter cold (unsalted)
For the filling:
- 2.25 TBSP Butter softened at room temperature (unsalted)
- 2 TBSP Brown sugar
- 1/3 tsp Ground cinnamon
- pinch Ground nutmeg
- pinch Salt
For the sauce:
- 5 oz Sweetened condensed milk
- 5 oz Milk or half and half
- 2 tsp Butter unsalted
- Pinch Salt
- 1/3 tsp Vanilla extract
Milk
- 16 oz Milk cold
Instructions
- Arrange a rack in the middle of the oven and heat the oven to 350°F (176°C).
- Make the dough: Place flour, granulated sugar, baking powder, and salt in a large bowl and whisk to combine. Cut cold butter into small pieces and add to the flour mixture. Work the butter into the flour mixture with your fingers until it resembles fine breadcrumbs. Pour in milk and stir gently with a fork until a soft dough forms.
- Make the filling: Place brown sugar, ground cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt in a small bowl and stir to combine.
- Generously flour a work surface. Transfer the dough onto it and form it into a rectangle about 1/2 inch thick. Spread evenly with the room-temperature softened butter. Sprinkle the filling spice mixture over the butter. Starting at a short end, tightly roll up the dough into a log. Pinch to seal the seam and arrange seam-side down.
- Cut crosswise into even slices (2 per serving). Arrange the pieces cut side up in a small baking dish.
- Make the sauce: Place sweetened condensed milk, milk, butter, and salt in a medium saucepan over medium-high heat. Stir gently until the mixture just begins to bubble. Remove from the heat and stir in vanilla extract. Pour over the rolls. Reserve some for drizzling at the end.
- Bake until the rolls are puffed and golden brown and the sauce is bubbling and beginning to caramelize for about 40 to 50 minutes. Let cool for several minutes. Serve each roll with a drizzle of the reserved sauce.
- Enjoy with milk.
