Savory French Toast

Ingredients

Tossed Salad

  • 2 cups Romaine lettuce chopped
  • 8 Grape tomatoes halved
  • 1/2 cup Cucumber sliced into half circles
  • 2 TBSP Carrots shredded

Dressing

  • 3 tsp Extra-virgin olive oil
  • 1 cloves Garlic grated
  • 1/4 tsp Dijon mustard
  • 1 tsp Red wine vinegar

French Toast

  • 4 Eggs beaten
  • 2 oz Milk
  • 1/4 tsp Salt
  • 1 tsp Sugar
  • 1/2 tsp Garlic powder
  • 1/2 tsp Onion powder
  • 4 slices Sourdough bread
  • 6 oz Deli ham sliced
  • 4 slices Cheddar cheese
  • 1/4 cup Extra-virgin olive oil for frying
  • 4 TBSP Ketchup for serving (optional)

Sparkling Water

  • 16 oz Sparkling water cold

Instructions

  • Prep salad: Prep salad ingredients per instruction above.
  • Make dressing: In a bowl whisk together all the ingredients for the dressing until fully combined.
  • Finish salad: Toss all ingredients together with the dressing before serving.
  • Mix the eggs into a shallow bowl, with the milk, salt, sugar, garlic powder, and onion powder. Mix well and let sit for 5 minutes.
  • Layer the bread with ham and cheese. Put the sandwich together and dip it into the egg mixture then onto a plate.
  • Heat the oil in a nonstick pan on medium heat.
  • Dip the sandwich back into the egg mixture to get another soaking, then into the pan. Cook for 3 minutes, until it has a golden-brown colour and the cheese begins to melt. Turnover and cook for another 3 minutes, pressing lightly with a spatula to help seal the bread, then set aside on paper towels.
  • Cut in half, serve with ketchup (if using), tossed salad, and sparkling water.
