Prep salad: Prep salad ingredients per instruction above.
Make dressing: In a bowl whisk together all the ingredients for the dressing until fully combined.
Finish salad: Toss all ingredients together with the dressing before serving.
Mix the eggs into a shallow bowl, with the milk, salt, sugar, garlic powder, and onion powder. Mix well and let sit for 5 minutes.
Layer the bread with ham and cheese. Put the sandwich together and dip it into the egg mixture then onto a plate.
Heat the oil in a nonstick pan on medium heat.
Dip the sandwich back into the egg mixture to get another soaking, then into the pan. Cook for 3 minutes, until it has a golden-brown colour and the cheese begins to melt. Turnover and cook for another 3 minutes, pressing lightly with a spatula to help seal the bread, then set aside on paper towels.
Cut in half, serve with ketchup (if using), tossed salad, and sparkling water.
