Ingredients

Fried Ham and Cheese Sandwich:

  • 4 slices Your choice of bread (white, wheat, or your preference)
  • 6 oz Deli ham
  • 4 slices Cheddar cheese
  • 2 TBSP Unsalted butter
  • 4 oz Potato chips

Arugula Salad:

  • 3 cups Arugula
  • 1 Carrot shaved into ribbons
  • 2 TBSP Lemon juice freshly squeezed
  • 1 TBSP Balsamic vinegar
  • 2 TBSP Extra-virgin olive oil
  • ½ tsp Kosher salt
  • cup Parmesan cheese shaved
  • 3 TBSP Raw sunflower seeds chopped
  • 6 Grape tomatoes halved

Vanilla Sweet Cream Cold Brew:

  • ½ cup Half and Half or heavy cream
  • 2 TBSP Vanilla syrup (adjust to taste)
  • Ice cubes
  • 2 cups Cold brew coffee store bought or prepared the night before (see note)

Instructions

  • Arugula Salad: Place the arugula and shaved or grated carrots in a large bowl.
  • In a small bowl or large measuring cup, whisk together the lemon juice, balsamic vinegar, olive oil, and salt. Drizzle enough dressing over the arugula and carrots to moisten them, then toss to combine.
  • Sprinkle Parmesan cheese, chopped nuts (if using), and fresh herbs (if using) over the top.
  • Vanilla Sweet Cream Cold Brew: In a separate container, mix the half-and-half or heavy cream with the vanilla syrup until well combined. Reserve in refrigerator until ready to serve.
  • Fried Ham and Cheese Sandwich: Lay out the slices of bread. Place ham and cheese slices on half the bread slices. Top with the remaining slices of bread.
  • Heat a skillet and melt the butter for the sandwiches. Once the butter is melted and bubbling, add the sandwiches to the skillet.
  • Cook for 3-4 minutes on each side or until the bread is golden brown, and the cheese is melted.
  • Remove the sandwiches from the skillet and let them rest for a minute. If desired, serve with Dijon mustard.
  • Serve the Meal: Plate the sandwiches alongside the arugula salad and chips. Fill two glasses with ice cubes. Pour cold brew coffee into the glasses, leaving some space at the top. Pour vanilla sweet cream over cold brew coffee to taste. Enjoy your meal!

Notes

Cold brew coffee recipe:
Ingredients:
  • 2 cups filtered water
  • 4 TBSP coffee coarsely ground
Instructions
  1. Combine coffee with water. Place in refrigerator.
  2. Allow to brew for 12 hours. Once ready to serve, strain coffee grounds from the coffee. (You can use a French press to brew the coffee, making straining simpler, or just pour the coffee through a fine mesh strainer.
