For the sausage: cook in a 400 degree oven to an internal temperature of 155 degrees using a thermometer.
Preheat a non-stick pan or griddle over medium low heat. Lightly grease the pan with butter and oil as needed.
Mix the beaten egg, milk, brown sugar, vanilla and cinnamon in a shallow bowl. Dip the bread in turning to coat all sides evenly until the sticks are moistened but not soggy. Cook in the pan or griddle until golden brown on all sides.
Serve the French toast with syrup, sausage, and orange. Garnish with sifted powdered sugar.
