Ingredients
- 4 oz Sausage links
- 2 tbsp Butter as needed
- 2 tsp Extra-virgin olive oil
- 1 Egg beaten
- 1/4 cup Milk
- 1/2 tbsp Brown sugar
- 1/2 tsp Vanilla extract
- 1/2 tsp Ground cinnamon
- 8 sticks Texas toast substitute any thick cut bread of your choice. Cut into about 3 inch long by 1 inch wide sticks, about 4 to 5 per portion
- 2 tbsp Maple syrup or more if desired
- 1 cup Mandarin Orange peeled and sectioned (Check the Fruit guide to substitute seasonal fruits)
- 1/2 tsp Powdered sugar sifted for garnish
Instructions
- For the sausage: cook in a 400 degree oven to an internal temperature of 155 degrees using a thermometer.
- Preheat a non-stick pan or griddle over medium low heat. Lightly grease the pan with butter and oil as needed.
- Mix the beaten egg, milk, brown sugar, vanilla and cinnamon in a shallow bowl. Dip the bread in turning to coat all sides evenly until the sticks are moistened but not soggy. Cook in the pan or griddle until golden brown on all sides.
- Serve the French toast with syrup, sausage, and orange. Garnish with sifted powdered sugar.
