Equipment

Ingredients

BBQ Sauce

  • 1 cup Ketchup
  • 1/3 cup Molasses
  • 1/3 cup Brown sugar
  • 3 TBSP Apple cider vinegar
  • 1 TBSP Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tsp Smoked paprika
  • 1 tsp Chili powder
  • 1 tsp Onion powder
  • 1/2 tsp Salt
  • 2 tsp Liquid smoke

Ribs

  • 1/2 TBSP Brown sugar
  • 1 tsp Paprika
  • 1/2 tsp Garlic powder
  • 1/2 tsp Onion powder
  • 1/2 tsp Salt
  • 1/4 tsp Black pepper
  • 2 lbs Pork baby back ribs a rack of ribs is about 2lbs on average, if you can find a smaller rack use what works best
  • 2 slices Crusty bread
  • 2 tsp Butter

Peas

  • 2 tsp Butter
  • 1 cup Green Peas

Iced Tea

  • 24 oz Iced tea cold

Instructions

  • In a bowl mix together all of the ingredients for the sauce until fully combined.
  • Prepare the rub by combining brown sugar, paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, salt,, and pepper. Rub evenly on top of the ribs.
  • If using a slow cooker: Cut the ribs in half so they fit into the slow cooker. Add half of the rack of ribs to the bottom of the slow cooker. Pour half of the sauce on top and layer with the other rack with the remaining sauce. Cook the ribs on low for 6-7 hours or high for 3-4 hours. (Refer to the slow cooker manual for settings and cooking times.)
    If using an oven: Alternatively, preheat the oven to 350 °F (176 °C). Place the ribs in a baking dish and cover them with sauce. Cover tight with foil and cook for 3 to 4 hours or longer if needed until very tender.
  • Once the ribs are tender, preheat the oven broiler on high. Place the ribs on a baking sheet. Lather some of the sauce on top. Broil until the tops get crispy. Brush with additional sauce as needed before serving.
  • Cook the peas: Melt the butter in a saute pan over medium heat. Saute the peas until hot and tender. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
  • Toast the bread then spread it with butter.
  • To serve: Portion the ribs and enjoy with peas, bread, and iced tea.
