Ingredients

Apple cinnamon oatmeal:

  • 1 cup Old-fashioned oats
  • 2 cups Milk (of your choice)
  • 1 Apple large, peeled cored and diced
  • 2 TBSP Honey or maple syrup
  • 1 tsp Ground cinnamon
  • pinch Salt

Cappuccino:

  • Espresso or strong coffee
  • 1/2 cup Milk (of your choice)
  • Cocoa powder or cinnamon (for garnish optional)

Figs

  • 4 Fresh figs quartered

Instructions

  • In a medium saucepan, combine all ingredients for oats. Bring to a gentle boil over medium heat.
  • Reduce the heat to low and simmer, stirring occasionally, for about 5-7 minutes or until the oats are tender and the mixture has thickened. If the oatmeal becomes too thick, you can add a little more milk to reach your desired consistency. Remove from heat.
  • While the oatmeal is cooking, brew a strong cup of espresso or coffee. Froth the milk using a frother or by heating it gently and whisking vigorously until frothy.
  • Pour the hot oatmeal into a bowl.
  • Pour the hot espresso or coffee into a cup. Top the cup with frothed milk, creating a layer of creamy foam. (Cappuccino is usually equal parts coffee, hot milk, and foam.)
  • Garnish the oatmeal with sliced fresh figs.
  • Sprinkle a little cocoa powder or cinnamon on top of the cappuccino for a decorative touch.
  • Serve the apple cinnamon oatmeal alongside the frothy cappuccino.
