Creamy Vanilla Porridge with Brown Sugar Apples
- 1 cup Water
- 1 cup Milk dairy or plant-based
- ½ cup Rolled oats
- ¼ tsp Salt
- 1 tsp Vanilla extract
- 1 TBSP Unsalted butter
- 1 medium Apple peeled, cored, and diced
- 1 TBSP Brown sugar
- ¼ tsp Cinnamon optional
Fruit
- 1 cup Fresh fruit e.g. berries, banana slices, or orange segments
Coffee
- Coffee
- Your choice of creamer
- Your choice of sweetener
Instructions
- Prep the ingredients as instructed above.
- Cook the porridge base: In a small saucepan, combine water, milk, oats, and salt. Bring to a gentle simmer over medium heat, stirring often.
- Add vanilla and finish cooking: When the porridge begins to thicken (after about 5–7 minutes), stir in vanilla extract. Reduce heat to low and continue stirring until creamy.
- Sauté the apples: While the porridge cooks, melt butter in a small skillet over medium heat. Add diced apple, brown sugar, and cinnamon (if using). Sauté for 5–7 minutes, until the apples are soft and caramelized.
- Brew the coffee: Brew and prepare the coffee to your liking.
- Assemble the bowls: Portion the porridge and top with brown sugar apples, serve with fruit and coffee.
