Ingredients
- 1 tbsp Butter
- 2 tsp All-purpose flour
- 1.5 cups Milk
- 1/4 cup Crumbled blue cheese
- 1 loaf French bread
- 3/4 lb Ground beef
- 3 cloves Garlic minced
- 1 cup Mushrooms chopped
- 2 tbsp Onion finely chopped
- 1 cup Provolone cheese shredded
- 2 tbsp Fresh chives chopped
- 4 Pickle spears
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350°F.
- Melt the butter in a saucepan over medium heat. Stir in the flour and cook for 1-2 minutes until it starts to turn golden brown. Whisk in the milk until it becomes thick and smooth. Remove from the heat and stir in the blue cheese. Season with salt and pepper to taste. Set aside.
- Slice the French bread in half, lengthwise, so you have two equal pieces. Scoop out some of the bread in the center of each piece. Set the two halves of French bread onto a large baking sheet. Set aside.
- Brown the ground beef, mushrooms, garlic, and onion in a skillet or non-stick pan, over medium heat. Breaking up the ground beef while cooking until no longer pink. Drain any excess grease. Season with salt and pepper.
- Spread the blue cheese mixture onto the bread. Top with the meat and mushrooms. Cover with provolone.
- Bake for about 10 minutes, or until cheese is melted.
- Remove from oven and let sit for 3 minutes before portioning and serving. Garnish with fresh chives. Serve with a pickle.
