Chicago Hot Beef Sandwich

Ingredients

  • 1.5 cups Beef broth
  • 1 tsp Kitchen Bouquet Browning and Seasoning Sauce substitute any powdered beef gravy mix to taste if needed
  • 1/4 tsp Lemon juice
  • 1/4 tsp Dried oregano
  • 1/4 tsp Garlic powder
  • 8 oz Deli roast beef shaved or sliced very thin (great chance to use any leftover roast beef if you have it)
  • 2 Ciabatta rolls
  • 1/2 cup Giardiniera plus use some chopped to top the sandwich (see notes)
  • 2 oz Potato chips

Instructions

  • Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F.
  • Combine the broth, Kitchen bouquet (substitute powdered beef gravy mix), lemon juice, oregano, and garlic powder in a medium saucepan over medium heat. When the mixture begins to boil reduce the heat and simmer for 10 minutes, then turn the heat to low. Taste and adjust the seasoning as needed.
  • Drop the shaved beef into the gravy (separate the slices) for 10 minutes. (Make sure the gravy isn't boiling or simmering).
  • Warm up the rolls in the oven for 4 - 5 minutes. (Don't slice them open until after they are warmed)
  • After the beef has soaked in the gravy, use tongs to arrange the beef on a warmed sandwich roll and top with giardiniera. Spoon on some extra gravy just before serving.
  • Serve with chips and Giardiniera on the side.

Notes

Giardiniera is an Italian relish of pickled vegetables in vinegar, usually comes in a jar. Substitute jarred pickled vegetables as available to you.
